Ernest Chaney was born June 5, 1897 in Clark County, Ohio. After numerous moves, he came to Villisca in November 1916 and on May 23, 1917 was married in Rd Oak, to Miss Gladys Sprague, his step-sister, his mother having married her father, C. A. Sprague, now living southwest of Villisca. The young couple lived with their parents a few months after their marriage, and later moved into Villisca. A little son, Lawrence, was born to them about five months ago. Mr. Chaney was janitor at the passenger depot a short time before his illness. The deceased leaves, besides his wife and little boy, a sister, Miss Phoebe; a brother, Alonzo; his mother and step father and his father, B. F. Chaney, whose place of residence unknown to relatives here. The friends extended sincere sympathy to the young widow and other relatives who mourn the death of an industrious young man in the prime of his life. A marriage license was issued on Wednesday afternoon to Ernest Chaney and Miss Gladys Gail Sprague, both of Villisca, who are stepbrother and stepsister. Miss Sprague is the daughter of Charles Augustus Sprague and Margaret Ann Ellis and Ernest Chaney Jr. is the step-son of Mr. Sprague. An ingenious crank has figured out that since the marriage, Mr. Chaney is husband and stepbrother of his wife, son-in-law of his father and brother-in-law of himself. His wife can also lay claim to a similar distinction of relationship. Mr. Chaney and Miss Sprague were married Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock at the Christian parsonage, Rev. J. A.
