Meske, a well-known and life-time resident of this vicinity, who departed this life Monday morning, February 11, 1963 at the Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, after a few weeks illness, aged 53 years, 6 months and 11 days. Ernest P. Meske was born in Akron, July 31, 1909, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. August Meske. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church by his uncle, the late Rev. F. A. Meske. During youth he assisted his parents on their farm, east of Akron. On September 19, 1934, he was united in marriage with Miss Mildred Klemme. They farmed five years on a farm east of here, but since 1939 had farmed northwest of here in Union county, S. D., where they became members of Union Creek Lutheran church. He was always active in church work, serving on the church council and church board of administration. Of a friendly and helpful nature, he will always be remembered by friends for his good deeds and helpfulness to others. Among those who survive his departure are: his wife, Mildred; his two daughters, Mrs. Vanita Olson and Miss Yvonne Meske, both, of Akron; his mother, Mrs. Mary Meske, of Akron; his two grandchildren; his brother, Elmer, of Brookings, S. D.; his sister, Mrs. Elsie Ravenswaay, of Bellflower, Calif., other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death were: his father, August Meske; his two brothers, Raymond and Eldor (Eldor gave his life in the battle of the Belgian Bulge in World War II); his grandson, Michael Lee Olson. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Union Creek Lutheran church, Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Margaret Stoutenburg and Dennis Hultgren were vocalists, and Mrs. Henry Fickbohm was organist. Pallbearers were Robert Root, Floyd Waterbury, Lloyd Fickbohm, Henry Fickbohm, Eldean Swoyer and George Johnston. Interment was in Union Creek Lutheran cemetery. Relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Meske; Arlan, Kim and Kye, from Brookings, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Willms, Susan and Marilee; Rev. and Mrs. John Langholz, from Sheldon, Iowa; Mrs. Gordon Johnson, from Milbank, S. D.; Herman Willms and Lizzie Rasberg, from Stockholm, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. John Thede, from Glidden, Iowa; Mrs. Ben Holstien, from Carroll, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs.Edwin Charlings, from Oakland, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hendricks, from Worthington, Minn.
