Read More	Obituary from the Papillion Times Newspaper, Sarpy County, Nebraska: Ervin was born March 25, 1916, the son of William and Marie Kersten, in Stanton, Nebraska. He died in Omaha on April 11, 1982, at the age of 66 years and 17 days. He attended school to the eighth grade in Stanton, was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Stanton. He worked on the family farm until 1939 when he moved to Papillion. He married Ruth Woodward on May 10, 1941, and entered the U.S. Army in February of 1942. During the four years he was in the service, he was stationed in the South Pacific for 2+ years. He was discharged in October of 1945. Following his discharge, he farmed south of Papillion. In November of 1946, he lost his left hand in a corn-picking accident. He continued to farm until 1957 when he began construction work. In 1966 he started his own construction company and was active in this business until 1979 when he retired at the age of 62. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Ireland School Board, Papillion Saddle Club, Masonic Lodge 39, American Legion Post 32, Trinity Lutheran Church and Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Viola and a brother, Calvin. He is survived by his wife; children, Ervin and Lorraine Kersten of Springfield, Larry and Judy Kersten of Gretna, Carol and Paul Kremer and Gary and Sheila Kersten of Papillion; seven grandchildren; sister, Verna Wetjen of Pierce, Neb. brother, Leonard Kersten of Ashland; stepmother, Mary Kersten of Randolph, Neb. A prayer service was held Tuesday at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, Papillion. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Papillion, with pastor Larry Sydow officiating. Joan Schram was organist. Don Kalal sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Pallbearers were nephews Bob Woodward, Dave Woodward, Jack Buffington, Bill Sturgeon and Rick Wetjen. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Lee, Ray Reynolds, Barney Schram, Albert Hammel, Al Schmid, John Earnest and Gib Faust. Interment was in Cedar Dale Cemetery. Graveside military honors were provided by Harry Bossard Post 32.
