She died in Mercy hospital on July 1, 1947, at the age of 68 years. She attended the Dayton schools and was graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class in 1894. Read More	Dayton Review July 10, 1947 OBITUARY Mrs. Estella Umsted Estella Julia LeValley was born March 7, 1879, to Mr. and Mrs. S. E. LeValley on a farm south of Dayton. She died in Mercy hospital on July 1, 1947, at the age of 68 years. She attended the Dayton schools and was graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class in 1894. The following year she taught school. Miss LeValley was united in marriage to William I. Umsted December 25, 1895. Mr. and Mrs. Umsted were blessed with six sons, Judd, Orrie, Forest, Clyde, La Verne, Earl and three daughters, Frances, Lydia and Iva. Mr. and Mrs. Umsted were privileged to observe their Golden Wedding anniversary in December of 1945. Mrs. Umsted had been a member of the Methodist Church for half a century, having united with the Dayton church in 1879. She was interested in the work of the church and for a number of years was president of the Missionary Society. She knew the meaning of Christian faith for her own life and utilized resources available even when no longer able to attend public worship of God. She used the Upper Room faithfully and always was grateful when the minister brought her the sacrament of Holy Communion. She believed in prayer and requested her minister to call in the home on the day before she departed for the hospital. Her spirit reflected genuine faith in God and friendliness to her neighbors. All who knew her will gratefully acknowledge that her Christian personality had blessed them. Mrs. Umsted was a member of the Royal Neighbors organization and was Oracle for several years. For a number of years Mrs. Umsted had not been in good health. Two weeks ago she was forced to submit to an operation from which she was unable to rally. All of her five brothers, Judd, Dan, Fred, Will, Chan, and one sister, Hattie, preceded her in death with the exception of Fred, who lives in Bramen, Oklahoma. One son, Orrie, and a daughter, Iva, also preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Umsted is survived by five sons, Judd, Macksburg, Iowa; Forest, Harcourt; Clyde, Truro, Iowa; La Verne, Lanyon, Iowa; Earl, St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Lydia, Mrs. M. O. Brye, Waverly, Iowa; Frances, Mrs. R. D. Echelberger, Dayton; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as a great host of friends.
