Christian Spangler). In 1842, Ambrose and Esther relocated to Eagle, in Wyoming County, NY. with their family, joining his father and several brothers who had arrived there before 1830. They appear to have adopted granddaughter Thankful Stevens (b. 2/1843), following the death of Thankful, her mother shortly after her birth. By 1860, they had moved on to Green County Wisconsin likely traveling with their youngest son Dewey. He was joining older brothers Adin & Socrates who had migrated there in 1845. Esther's married daughters Adeline, Mary and Esther, along with their families, had also relocated to the area. Esther's husband Ambrose died Feb., 7, 1860, probably in Green county, WI. In 1865, son Socrates relocated to Case township, Hamilton county, Iowa. Dewey brought his family along with Esther that same year or in 1866. In 1868, Adin and his family followed, traveling by covered wagon. The 1880 census listed Esther as living with the Clayton Doolittle family, (a son of Socrates), in Cass township. She was likely looking after her two year old great-granddaughter, Grace. Esther is buried in the Adin & Caroline Doolittle family plot next to Adin. Her headstone is inscribed "Mother". Wife Caroline is on the other side of Adin, with the same inscription. - revised May 2013-
