Description	:	Ethel died of a stroke Saturday at State Center Manor. She was a graduate with the class of 1914 of Collins High School. A school teacher for 5 years before she married. She left her profession to be a mother and raise three children. In 1938, she was one of two women elected to the Rhodes town council. The purchase of a new fire truck was the major achievement of her term of office. The first house to catch fire after the truck arrived was the Luing's, but Ethel had the fire put out with buckets of water from the pump before... After her children were grown, Ethel returned to teaching in the primary grades at Rhodes Consolidated School from 1947 - 1961. During this time she continued her education at Drake University in Des Moines in the evenings and on Saturdays until she received a B.S. degree in elementary education. After her retirement, she did substitute teaching for five years. Then in 1965, she and her husband Donald moved to Colo, IA. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
