Only the near and dear ones had realized her condition and knew that the end was so near. Etna Bush was the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Meneeley (sic.) and was born in Glasgow, Iowa, May 20, 1859 (sic.) and was 67 years, 8 months and 14 days old. In about the year 1880 the family moved to Beckwith where the parental home was for several years. On Christmas eve 1883, she was united in marriage to Uriah Bush, of this county and together they have traveled life's journey for 44 years. Three children were born to them, Mary, Charlie and Roy and four grandchildren, who with the husband, sister Miss Laura and two brothers Ed and John Meneeley (sic.), all living here in Iowa, are left to mourn her loss. In the midst of life we are in death, is a true saying and it was truly exemplified here as only the day of her final collapse. She had entertained a few friends, being as well as common. And that day will never be forgotten. Not one of us dreamed that death lurked so near. That night she became ill and all medical skill could do to alleviated her suffering was done. Hopes were raised as she seemed to improve but alas, they were blasted. She grew worse and was rushed to the Jefferson County hospital. Monday council was held and an operation was deemed necessary at once, but all to no avail. Gall stones and other complications had already made serious inroads in her delicate system. And the doctors gave no hopes whatever. For three days she hovered between life and death and on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 oclock (sic) she quietly and peacefully fell asleep, surrounded by her loved ones. Seemed to us as though she was stricken down at her post of duty which ended this useful life, Feb. 3, 1927, Being ill less than nine days. Mrs. Bush was converted in early life and the Methodist church was the church of her choice. It is not necessary for me to extol the virtues of this good woman whom we all knew and to love. She was a good wife and an affectionate mother. Her home and her dreams were her shrine. An excellent neighbor, a true and faithful friend and once her friends always her friend. In the sad hours of sickness, trouble and bereavement of her neighbors, she was there ture and faithful in the end. and it is but a debt of gratitude that I am now trying to repay. We are told "That to live in heats we leave behind is not do die." So our dear one is not dead, she is only sleeping. So why should we mourn she is at rest. God always calls his loved ones home. --------- Davenport Democrat & Leader Davenport, Iowa February 4, 1927 Mrs. Uriah Bush, Fairfield, Called Fairfield, Ia., Feb. 4. - Mrs. Uhiah (sic. Uriah) Bush, well known resident of Jefferson county, passed away Thursday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock in the Jefferson County hospital, following an operation. Services will probably be held Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Bush was before her marriage Miss Etna Meneely and was reared new Glasgow. She is survived by her husband, three children, Mary, Charles G., and Roy Bush all of this city. A sister, Miss Laura Meneely and two brothers, Ed and John Meneely also of this city.
