The Frankforther family of Ohio migrated west by rail in 1870 and finally settled at Glasco. An engineer had to back up a train to a station to get energetic Gene who had wandered away from the family. Gene became a true pioneer. He ate buffalo steak, feared the wild Indiana and frequented the familiar old swimming hole at Glasco. He graduated from the public schools and taught at Glasco, Aurora and other places. Afterwards, he moved to Concordia and clerked in the Milt Scott store. He met and married Miss Selma Anderson of Norway Jan. 1, 1900. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Gladys E. Durland of Wichita, Miss Frances Frankforther of Kansas City and Robert E. and Franklin E. of Kansas City. His wife and children all survive him as do also Mrs. Ethel Kelley of Wichita, a daughter by a former marriage; two sisters, Leona Frankforther of Concordia and Cora E. Thompson of Aurora, and two brothers, E.D. Frankforther of Kingman, Ariz., and L. O. Frankforther of Glasco. Eugene at times composed and instructed in music. He was a Concordia mail carrier, park caretaker and a talented landscaper. He was a good neighbor and citizen. As a hobby, he wrote poems, drew beauty from the landscape with his camera, beautified his home with flowers and a rockery that will stand as a monument to his effort and his vision. Eugene was in the yard gathering his gorgeous flowers for his wife to carry with her to the courthouse when he was fatally stricken about seven weeks ago. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 3 at the Baptist church of Concordia by the Baptist minister, the Rev. W.H. Hawes. Interment was in the Concordia cemetery.
