Eugene was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Willowdell, to the late Christopher J. & Anna M. (Stiefel) Meyer. Eugene was owner of Eugene Meyer Trucking Inc. in Versailles, since 1955, until his retirement in 1991. He also formerly owned Meyer's Texaco in Versailles. Eugene was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Willowdell, to the late Christopher J. & Anna M. (Stiefel) Meyer. Eugene was owner of Eugene Meyer Trucking Inc. in Versailles, since 1955, until his retirement in 1991. He also formerly owned Meyer's Texaco in Versailles. Eugene served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Eugene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell. He was also a member of the Versailles American Legion; the Versailles Eagles Aerie 2347; was a charter member and past president of the Versailles Rotary Club and charter member and past president of the Darke County S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. In addition to his parents, Eugene was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, Ed, Lowell, Orville, Ralph and Louie Meyer; and sisters, Marie Meyer, Esther Wulber and Ethel Wulber. Eugene is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Brown) Meyer, whom he married June 18, 1950. He is also survived by his son, Kelly E. Meyer and fiancée, Kimberley Willey of Versailles and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Willowdell. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
