Christen, 68, deputy clerk of the Allen-co board of elections and former city councilman, died unexpectedly at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Rita's hospital following a heart attack. Christen, 68, deputy clerk of the Allen-co board of elections and former city councilman, died unexpectedly at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Rita's hospital following a heart attack. Mr. Christen suffered the attack shortly after arrival at the courthouse Wednesday morning and was near collapse as he seated himself on the steps in the first floor corridor. He was helped into the board of election offices where he received medical treatment and then was removed to the hospital in a Davis-Miller and Son ambulance for treatment. He didn't respond to treatment and died soon after arrival. Born in Upper Sandusky, Mr. Christen came to Lima when a child. At the time of his death he resided at 463 N. Elizabeth-st. He had held the post of deputy clerk of the board of elections since May 1943. He had been a city council member from Jan. 4, 1942, until his acceptance of the clerk position. Prior to assuming the board of elections post, Mr. Christen had been with the First National bank of Lima and later, assistant cashier of the Lima Trust Co. He also had served as a liquidator for several banks in eastern Ohio. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic church, past exalted ruler of the Lima Lodge No. 54, Elks, and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council in Lima. Surviving are four sons, Vincent A., 518 N. Collett-st; James B., Robert O., and William G., all at home; six daughters, Mrs. Henry E. Baker, Pittsburgh; Rose Marie, Margaret, Eleanor, Charlotte and Bernadette, all at home. The body will be removed from the Cantwell funeral home to the residence late Wednesday afternoon to remain pending completion of funeral arrangements.
