Read More	Stratford Courier August 22, 1940 LAD DIED MONDAY NIGHT FOLLOWING TONSIL OPERATION Eugene Leroy Anderson, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Anderson, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday night about 11 o'clock. The cause of his death was a blood clot on his lungs which came after the lad had submitted to a tonsillectomy in Boone earlier in the day. Following the removal of his tonsils in Boone earlier Monday he was taken to his home, four and a half miles southeast of Stratford. Later in the day he became suddenly very ill. A doctor was called and he was rushed to the county hospital in Boone where his death occurred before further medical aid could be given him. He started to attend school last fall and is survived by his parents, a sister, Cheryl Rae, aged 2 years, his maternal and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Bergesen, of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Anderson, of Stratford. The many friends of the bereaved parents extend sincerest sympathy. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the South Marion Methodist church, following a family service in the home a half hour earlier. The Rev. Murphy Duncan, pastor of the church and the Rev. C.F. Schmidt, of the Stanhope Church of Christ, will be in charge. Interment will be in the South Marion cemetery. Stratford Courier August 29, 1940 Obituary Eugene LeRoy Anderson Eugene LeRoy Anderson, son of Melvin and Lenore Bergeson Anderson, was born near Stratford on July 17, 1934, and died in the county hospital in Boone, Aug. 19, 1940, at the age of 6 years, 1 month, 2 days. Death was caused by complications following a tonsil operation. He was baptized in the South Marion Methodist church April 17, 1938, by the present pastor, the Rev. Murphy Duncan. He was a kind and courteous little lad, much devoted to his father and mother. He had a deep reverence for God and an unusual understanding of the goodness of God for one of his age. A few weeks before his death he told his parents that "he was not afraid to die for he knew God would take care of him." Left to mourn his death are his parents, one sister, Cheryl Rae, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Anderson, of Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Bergeson, of Jewell. Also left are nine uncles, six aunts, twelve cousins and a host of other relatives and friends who were deeply by his sudden passing. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon with a prayer and song service in the home at 1:30 o'clock and at 2 o'clock in the South Marion church. The Rev. Murphy Duncan, assisted by the Rev. C.F. Schmidt, of the Stanhope Christian church were in charge of the services. The text was from Mark 10:14: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. A duet, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," was sung by Mrs. Roy Bergquist and Mrs. August Siemsen, Mrs. Marie Martens playing the accompaniments. The closing song, "When He Cometh," was sang by Misses Norma Jean Olson and Miss Maxine Lodger, cousins, of Mrs. Anderson. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and bore a silent tribute to the love everyone in the community had for the departed boy. Interment was in the South Marion cemetery with the following as pallbearers: Alton Erickson, LaVerne Erickson, Oran Carlson and LaVerne Engstrom.
