Gene was born at home near Battle Creek, Nebraska the son of Charles C. and Irene B. (Winter) Zimmerman. Gene graduated from Battle Creek (NE.) High school in 1942 then was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from April 1943 until being discharged in February 1946. Gene was born at home near Battle Creek, Nebraska the son of Charles C. and Irene B. (Winter) Zimmerman. Gene graduated from Battle Creek (NE.) High school in 1942 then was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from April 1943 until being discharged in February 1946. Gene then worked in his father's insurance business agency until 1954 when he moved to Ewing, Nebraska and started his own agency. Gene married Mary Rockey on December 31, 195 in Orchard. The couple lived in Ewing until 1966 when they sold the agency and moved to Omaha where they both worked at the Offutt Air Force Base until retiring in 1987. He did work several part time jobs until moving to Norfolk in 2002. Gene married Jeannine (Weber) Miller on December 10, 2005 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Norfolk, Nebraska. Gene is survived by: wife Jeannine Zimmerman; her children and families; sister in-law Irene Zimmerman of Norfolk, Nebraska; brother in-law Dr. Vernon Rockey of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of family and friends. Gene was preceded in death by: first wife, Mary Zimmerman in 1993 and brothers, Carl and Francis Zimmerman. Burial was in Cedar Dale Cemetery, Papillion, Nebraska with Military Rites by Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.
