She was the daughter of Morris and Elsie Mildred (Sliter) Nielson. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a master's degree. She married James Donald Bruce in January of 1942. He preceded her in death July 2, 1994. Eunice was a social worker and an adoption specialist. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and granddaughter, Laura Anne Wittmann. Eunice was a member of First Christian Church of Atchison, American Association of University Women, and she belonged to a class that started the Kansas Poetry Society. Eunice also published a book titled "A Piece of Land in Kansas." Survivors include a son, James Robert Bruce and wife, Jean, Point Pleasant, N.J., two daughters, Judy Wittmann and husband, Ron, Niwot, Colo., and Beth Bruce and her companion, Robert Hink, Atchison, and a grandson, Matthew Wittmann. Mrs. Bruce was a member of Kansas Cremation Services. Family suggests memorial gifts to NEK Hospice or Gore-Cummings-Nielson-Armstrong-Case Family Cemetery.
