Description	:	Evalena Lula (Gebhards) Wenz, 87, Beatrice, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center, Beatrice. She was born on June 9, 1923, at rural Wymore. Evalena married Carl Wenz on Dec. 10, 1942, at the parsonage of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wymore. They lived on a farm near Diller until moving to Beatrice in 1952. She was a stay-at-home mom and was a room mother at school, helped with Brownies and Girl Scouts. She baked cookies, donuts, once a year raisin pecan pie, and at Christmas, Pon Pons and fudge. She was born on June 9, 1923, at rural Wymore. Evalena married Carl Wenz on Dec. 10, 1942, at the parsonage of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wymore. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Beatrice, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Federated Woman's Club for many years. She is survived by daughter, Shirley Hadley and husband, LaVerne "Ray," of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kathryn Hadley of Omaha, Daniel Hadley and wife, Cheryl, of Brighton, Colo.; great-grandsons, Justin Hadley and Kyle Hadley of Brighton, Colo.; brother, Frank Gebhard and wife, Ruth, of Beatrice; sister-in-law, Katie Pfister of Stockton, Mo.; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wenz (Sept. 2, 2004); son; Larry G. Wenz; parents, Folkert and Hilka (Hinrichs) Gebhards; 8 sisters; 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at St. John Lutheran Church, Beatrice, with Pastor David Kramer officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 8:45 a.m. Saturday in the church chapel. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery, rural Diller. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, at Harman-Wright Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial is established. A register book for messages of condolence is available online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com. Harman-Wright Mortuary, Beatrice, in charge of arrangements.
