Evelyn Leona Fish Hume was born March 1, 1915 at Burke, South Dakota to George and Henrietta Fredricksen Fish and passed away January 8, 2002 at the Ambassador Nursing Home in Lincoln at the age of 86. Evelyn Leona Fish Hume was born March 1, 1915 at Burke, South Dakota to George and Henrietta Fredricksen Fish and passed away January 8, 2002 at the Ambassador Nursing Home in Lincoln at the age of 86. Evelyn's mother died when she was 12 years old and her father died when she was 15 years old, so she and her brothers & sister went to live with relatives. Evelyn lived with Hannah & Charles (Chick) Sinclair in the Gross, Ne. area. Evelyn was baptized on May 5, 1929 and married Wilbur Hume on November 27, 1937 in Milford, Iowa . 3 sons were born during the marriage. Evelyn was a member of the Ornan Chapter #247, Order of Eastern Star and the Gross Garden Club when she lived in the area. She enjoyed her crafts, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and taking bus tours while her health permitted her to do so. She especially liked having her grandchildren stay with her when they were young so they could bake cookies, go to the park, and play games. Wilbur and Evelyn lived on the Hume homestead until she moved to Lincoln in 1969, after Wilbur's death in 1968. In Lincoln, she was a house mother for the nursing students and resident manager at Bryan Hospital until she retired in 1992. She is survived by sons, Dean (Karen) of Lincoln, Duane (Linda)of Bruning & Gene Hume of Central, Alaska and grandchildren Vonda, Joanna & Renee Hume, all of Lincoln and Brian (Tammy) Hume of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving is her brother, Henry (Annie) Fish of Spencer, Ne., sister Arlene Gailey, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Fish, both of Loveland, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Kenneth Fish.
