Barr, 925 Chestnut. It will be built on a tract, facing south, along the Americus road, about two miles northwest of Emporia. The Barr home is of contemporary architecture and has one story. It is long and low and has a large amount of glass in the exterior walls. It was designed by Brinkman and Hagan, architects. The exterior walls will be faced with Red Roman brick, which are a foot long and thinner than ordinary brick. Vertical siding also will be used. The new house will have a flat or slightly sloping pitch and gravel roof, and radiant heating coils will be installed in the concrete floor. The house is about 80 feet long with varying widths to about 30 feet. The floor plan includes three bedrooms, two baths, a living room and several wardrobes. Two sides of the living room will be all glass and on one side the interior will be the Roman type brick. *************************** The Emporia Gazette, 06 Mar 1972, Monday SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET The Emporia School Board will meet in regular session Monday evening at 7:30 p. m. in the Board of Education building, 501 Merchant St. Among the items on the agenda are: authorization for the sale of all buildings on the new high school site, including the Everette Barr house; the purchase of a football scoreboard and new, safer doors at the junior high school; consideration of roads around the high school; and personnel hiring and replacement. *************************** The Emporia Gazette, 07 Mar 1972, Tuesday The bids for the buildings and fences on the new high school site were presented to the board. They voted to take the high bid in each case. The Everette Barr home, which stands on the site, was purchased by Lynn Lyon, Rt. 1, for $555.55. Barr A retired assistant publisher and business manager of The Gazette, Everette Ross Barr, died Oct. 18 in the Presbyterian Manor at Salina, where he had lived for the past two months. He was a businessman in Emporia most of his life, retiring in 1970, and was one of the founders of the Lyon County Free Fair. He had been a member and past president of the Emporia Rotary Club and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert Weakley, O.F.M., pastor of Sacred Heart Church. The family has suggested memorial contributions of scholarships to either the Newman Hospital School of Nursing or to the Business Division of the College of Applied Arts and Sciences, Emporia State University. Everett Ross Barr, son of Oliver Francis and Lydia Ann Harper Barr, was born Feb. 5, 1900, in Buhler. He married Katherine Jensen in Emporia on Nov. 5, 1924, and she died March 29, 1960. On July 6, 1965, he married Helen Brickell, and she survives. Other survivors are two sons, William Barr of Salina and Robert Barr of Webster Grove, Mo,; one daughter, JoAnn Schovee of Wichita, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Mr. Barr came to Emporia in 1911, was graduated from Emporia High School and attended the Kansas Normal School, now Emporia State University. He was in the stationary and printing business at Barr-Kuhlmann Company until it was sold in 1945. In 1948, he leased the job printing shop at The Gazette. He was business manager from 1952 until he became the assistant publisher in 1968.
