| Description | : | Armorer and Master Blacksmith Felipe García y Romero was born at Guadalajara about 1748. He was the son of José Antonio García and María Petrona Romero. He trained as a blacksmith and armorer, skills he used after he enlisted as a soldado de cuera. He arrived at San Diego aboard the Santiago on March 13, 1774, traveling with his widowed mother, whose surname he often used as his own.
