Byron, Neb., Aug. 12. - The funeral of the seven-year-old son of Henry Moeller, who lives three and one half miles west of here was held Wednesday at one o'clock from the house. While the family was at breakfast yesterday morning the little fellow was playing around a carpenter's tool chest. The boy found a pistol and some cartridges. He loaded the gun and then by some means fired it. How he did it is not known, for the hammer of the old pistol was broken. The bullet entered his chest. The family heard the shot and his cry. The father ran and met the boy coming to him with his hand on his chest. The boy died in a few minutes. ==================== The Byron Blade (Byron, NE), Friday, August 13, 1909; pg. 1 A Shocking Accident. Like a flash of lightning out of a clear sky the death angel entered the home of Henry Moeller, three miles west of Byron on the Kansas side of the state line, and claimed the bright little son, Ferdinand Fred William, aged about 7 years, Tuesday morning. Mr. Moeller is building a handsome new residence and the carpenters at work on the job are boarding with him. One of these had a revolver in his tool chest, and while the family and the men were eating breakfast the little fellow was playing about outside. In some manner he got hold of the gun, and the first intimation those in the house had of danger was the report of the gun. The father hurried out and caught the lad who had run about 20 feet from where the gun was laying. The bullet had entered the breast and passed clear through him, and he was dead before they got him into the house. Dr. Decker was called and he notified Coroner Decker at Belleeville (sic), who certified accidental death. The funeral was held from St. Peter's church (sic) at 1:30 y esterday, conducted by Rev. Schardt. The community is greatly shocked that such a calamity should befall so promising a child, and express the deepest sympathy for the fond parents in their bereavement.
