Mrs. Kane was born Feb. 26, 1906, on a farm northeast of Fairfield, the daughter of Henry William and Martha M. Miller Shafer. She grew up in the Germanville community and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1923. She lived her entire lived in the Fairfield community and taughter school for seven years at the Germanville School, Buchanan No. 3 and Buchanan No. 2. She married Leonard L. "Bud" Kane on June 16, 1928, at the Trinity Church in Iowa City. He died July 1, 1958 (sic. June 30, per cemetery notes). She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Happy Day Club. Surviving are two sons, Donald L. of Fairfield, Richard E. of Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erma Ehrhardt of Tempe, Ariz.
