Description	:	Florine Frances Hartley was born on the Olney Homestead family farm north of Marathon on Feb. 13, 1887. She went to country schools in that area for her early education and went to the Marathon high school through the 10th grade. Florine spent her early youth on the family farm north of Marathon, and when her parents moved into town, she moved with them to the house where she lived until she moved into the Marathon retirement housing center along with her husband, Ralph D. Florine spent her early youth on the family farm north of Marathon, and when her parents moved into town, she moved with them to the house where she lived until she moved into the Marathon retirement housing center along with her husband, Ralph D. Hartley in about 1977. Florine was married to Ralph D. Hartley on July 4, 1939. Ralph passed away in 1979. No children were born into this union. After moving to the town of Marathon, Florine helped to care for her father and mother. Her father, Richard Olney spent the last couple of years of his life in a nursing home in Des Moines. Florine's mother, Mary E. Olney lived in the family home in Marathon until her death at the age of 104. Florine always vowed that she would live as long as her mother did, and when Florine died, she was 107 years, eight months and 14 days old. During her lifetime, Florine saw many changes. However, when asked how things were when she was young, she would always reply, "Just like they are now." Florine was the youngest of the children of Richard Olney and Mary E. Olney. Mary E. Olney's maiden name was Mary E. Henry and she was a direct descendant of Patrick Henry. The mother of Mary E. Olney was an Adams and she was a direct descendant of John Adams and John Quincey Adams. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ralph, and her brothers and sisters, Will Olney, Rick Olney, Les Olney, Norris Olney, Sr., Josephine Walker, Bertha Brown and Mary Donaldson. Though Florine never had any children of her own, she had many nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Since Florine was the youngest of her family, and since she lived to be over 107 years of age, she was preceded in death by quite a number of her nieces and nephews.
