Description	:	Richard H. Olney was born n the Olney Homestead north of Marathon on July 21, 1879. He was the sixth child in a family of nine children. He attended country school and graduated from the Marathon high school with the class of 1897. After graduation from high school his attended college at Roland, Ohio. In 1903 he made a trip to the Klondike gold fields in Alaska. While on this trip he wrote an interesting diary telling of his experiences. Olney and was engaged in this business at the time of his death. He never married. His mother, Mary E. Olney of Marathon, survives him, also three brothers. William H. Olney of Brevard, N. C; Leslie and Norris of this place; two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Donaldson of Webb, and Florlne Olney of Marathon. His father, Richard Olney, two sisters, Bertha and Josephine and a brother John have preceded him in death. (Storm Lake Register, 4-18-1939)
