Bower was born May 24, 1892, in Keokuk County, the son of August and Louise (sic) Fixmer Bower. He was married Feb. 25, 1914, to Eva M. Anderson. A retired farmer, he had lived in the Fairfield Community for over 53 years. The family home is at 305 E. Kirkwood. Bower was a member of the Eagles Lodge. In addition to his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Allender, Fairfield; Charlotte Steele, Bloomfield; and Mrs. Henry Roland, Washington; one son, Lester Bower, New Glarus, Wis.; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Walter, Keota, and Clarence, Sigourney. He was preceded in death by one son and one brother. A memorial to the Cancer Fund has been established. -------- Note: The son, John Robert Bower, died in 1944 in Guam during World War II. His body was not able to be returned to Fairfield until 1948, when it was laid to rest in this plot where his parents are also now buried.
