Waller was accidentally shot and so badly hurt that he died while he was being taken to the hospital in Boone. The boy was accidentally shot by Willie Parrish of Fraser who was visiting at the Frank Faro home in the same neighborhood. The story of the shooting is told as follows: Floyd and his brother Orville, aged 13, were at their grandparents farm and were in the timber a short distance from the house when young Parrish, aged 16, appeared quite a distance away carrying a 22 caliber rifle. When the Waller boys saw him they are said to have yelled to him and asked him how far his gun would shoot. Then, it is said, he lifted the rifle and shot, presumably in boyish pride to show that he had a good gun, but the gun is through to have exploded before he intended it to and the bullet sped on its way entering the abdomen of Floyd Waller about three inches to the left of the center of his body. Medical aid was summoned at once and he was placed in a car but died when only a short distance from home, the cause of his death being an internal hemorrhage. He was the oldest son of Carl Waller Jr., and his death came to his father and family like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky. This family has had so much sorrow that it seems that they can hardly bear up under another death. They have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in the community. Floyd Waller was born near Stratford, September 22, 1908 and on the day of his death, May 17, 1924, was 15 years, 8 months, 15 days old. His mother passed way several years ago. He leaves to mourn his sad and untimely passing, his saddened father, two sisters, Mildred and Irene, and two brothers Orville and Myron, his aged grandparents and many other relatives. Funeral services were held from the Swedish Mission church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. B.O. Johnson of Pilot Mound officiating, Revs. J.E. Widen and J. William Johnson of Harcourt also made short talks. Six singers from Pilot Mound furnished the singing. Internment was made in the Swede Bend cemetery.
