Description	:	PIONEER WOMAN CALLED. Mrs. Frances E. Shedd passed away at her home in this city Sunday evening, following a long and painful illness of diabetes, aged 66 years and 17 days. Frances E. Burch was born January 9, 1847, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She was left an orphan at about fourteen years of age and to care for herself. Shedd passed away at her home in this city Sunday evening, following a long and painful illness of diabetes, aged 66 years and 17 days. Frances E. Burch was born January 9, 1847, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She was left an orphan at about fourteen years of age and to care for herself. She worked out and made her way through school and when she finished and received her certificate she began teaching. She was united in marriage to Henry J. Callaghan at Blackberry, Illinois, in 1868, and in 1869, with her husband, moved to Plymouth County, Ia., locating southeast of Akron. Four children were born to this union, two of whom are living, Mrs. Edna M. Williams and Henry J. Callaghan, of this locality. Mrs. Callaghan was left a widow in 1878, and again she taught school, supporting herself and children. In 1880 she was united in marriage to Alvah S. Shedd, and to this union were born three children, who survive—Mrs. Edward Spears, Leander and Alvah Shedd. In 1908 Mr. Shedd was called to his reward, and in 1909 she moved to Akron, where she lived just four years to a day, and where she passed to her Home Beyond on Sunday, January 26, 1913, at 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Shedd was converted and united with the Baptist church some twenty-five years ago and has always remained a true and faithful member. About two years ago she became a member of the Akron W.R.C. Her life testified to the loss sustained by the community, the W.R.C., the church and the family, but her faith in Christ, her Savior, testified that Heaven is her gain. The community offers its sympathy to those bereaved. Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church yesterday afternoon by Rev. C. Wesley Fletcher. A large number of friends and old-time acquaintances were present to pay a last tribute of respect. The W.R.C. attended the service in a body and escorted the remains part way to Riverside cemetery, where Interment was made. Friends attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. M.
