Description	:	Frances Sugg was born on 14 August 1812 in Wake Co., North Carolina to Samuel Sugg and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Walton. Their relationship is corroborated by multiple records. Fannie married: 1) Thomas Lowery on 21 November 1832 in Wake Co., NC (Berry Harriss, bondsman). It is said they later divorced, but I haven't seen the paperwork. Read More	Frances Sugg was born on 14 August 1812 in Wake Co., North Carolina to Samuel Sugg and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Walton. Their relationship is corroborated by multiple records. Gillespie, by whom she was widowed, in Orange Co., NC. 3) Lastly, Fannie Gillespie married Elmore W. Woods, a Chapel Hill Commissioner, on 13 March 1866 in Orange Co., NC. Elmore died on Tuesday, 24 September 1895, presumably in Chapel Hill. Apparently tired of nuptials, Fanny appears as a widowed boarder in the Chapel Hill 1900 census and died in that town on 10 June 1907. Though there is no indication of relationship, the head of the house is Cornelia A. Roberson (Stone), said to be her niece. SUGG vs. Suggs (A Carolina law was passed changing the names of Fanny's grandfather and granduncles from Taylor to SUGG, NOT SUGGS! The families have used both, for years and years, but she legally descends from a Sugg and NOT a Suggs. Bear that in mind when researching this family, anywhere. In addition, a file I'm creating indicates SUGG is the predominate spelling, particularly in legal records.) ======== ======== "The Durham Recorder, Semi-Weekly"; Tuesday, 11 June 1907; Vol. 88; No. l2; Page 1; Column 2 Mrs. Woods, relic of the late Elmore Woods, one of Chapel Hill’s oldest land marks, passed over the dark river into the great beyond yesterday morning. She was close to the 95th mile post. She had made her home at Mrs. A.B. Roberson’s since the death of her husband. The remains were interred in the Roberson cemetery at 10 o’clock this morning. She was one of the oldest members of the M.E. church. Rev. W. R. Royall conducted the burial services. NOTE: It should be noted there is no Roberson Cemetery recorded for town of Chapel Hill; the family with whom Fanny lived is buried in Old Chapel Hill Cemetery. It is said families originally had their own, walled-in areas here, and it seems likely that it is to this the obituary refers.
