Description	:	FRANKIE J. BARKER Funeral services for Miss Frankie J. Barker of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, were held here Tuesday afternoon at the Pitman Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. M. A. Robeson, Miss Barker died Sunday, March 28, 1954. Music at the funeral was by Mrs. Mable Dunn and casket bearers were Frank Lenhart, Manford Fryer, John Palmquist, George J. Muller Jr., Herman Christie, and Carl R. Stinson. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Frankie Julia Barker, daughter of Asa and Mary Taylor Barker, was born August 3, 1867 at Fort Atkins, Wisconsin and was 86 yers only at her death. She came to Iowa with her parents when she was five years old, and she was a teacher in rural schools for 11 years. In 1896, she came to Villisca and lived here many years. She was the first librarian of the Villisca Public Library, serving in that capacity 25 years. Due to failing health she made her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Grace Barker in Mt. Vernon, during the last eight years of her life. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the White Shrine, and she also was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by an elderly Aunt Miss Lillian Taylor, Fort Worth, Texas, two sisters-in-law, three nieces and several cousins. Villisca Review, Villisca, Iowa, Thursday, April 1, 1954, page 6
