Read More	Obituary (from Wherry family history): Frances Wherry Mulcahy, daughter of Frank and Maud Sutton Wherry, was born July 17, 1893 at Wyoming, Jones County, Iowa. She attended high school at Melbourne and Plymouth, Iowa. She also attended Normal School at Cedar Falls and taught for six years in the rural schools in Cerro Gordo and Worth Counties. On August 30, 1919, she was married to Harry Earl Mulcahy at Mason City, Iowa. He was born November 17, 1893 at Melbourne, Iowa. Harry served in the Ordinance Department of the Army during World War I, from December 19, 1917 to July 7, 1919. He was stationed at Fort Flagler and Fort Worden, Washington. He was appointed corporal, October 15, 1918 and later sergeant. They established their home at Melbourne, Iowa. He was an electrician and owned and operated his own shop. He died October 15, 1952 at the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines. Harry and Frances had three children - Max and Harriet and a baby boy who died in infancy. Frances was for many years the Wherry family historian. In 1967 she brought her section of the 1904 family history up-to-date and maintained it through the rest of her life. Frances sold the family home in Melbourne to Jacobs Brothers Apartments in October of 1975. She spent the winter in Missouri while a 12-apartment complex was being built. In April of 1976 she moved back to apartment #1. In April of 1980 Frances suffered a heart attack and was in the hospital for twenty-one days. She recuperated at the home of her daughter, Harriet, for eight weeks. While visiting the apartment in July in preparation for returning home she fell and broke her left hip. After a hip replacement she was in the nursing home in State Center for two months. She returned home October 1, 1980. She continued to live in her apartment in the old neighborhood with the help of wonderful neighbors and health aids until August 1982 when she suffered a stroke that required nursing home care. Frances died on August 19, 1984 at State Center Manor in Marshall County, Iowa. Harry and Frances are both buried in the cemetery at Melbourne, Iowa.
