(Christensen) Wilkinson, 70, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at The Ambassador of Lincoln. Services were held Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church Gollaher Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Delvin Roper officiating. Graveside services were at Osco Cemetery near Norman. Mrs. Wilkinson was born Nov. 4, 1927, to Peter and Ruth (Maucher) Christensen on her family's farm near Minden. She attended a rural school and Minden Public School. She graduated from Minden High School in 1945. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University pursuing a degree in elementary education. On Aug. 14, 1949, she married Gene Wilkinson in Minden. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Minden. She then taught in Giltner, Clay Center, Wahoo and Trinity Lutheran School in Grand Island. In 1964 she and her husband moved to Kearney. She completed her bachelor's degree in elementary education and was a teacher there for five years. In 1976 she received a master's degree in education. She served as the Able Student Coordinator and a fourth-grade teacher for the Grand Island Public Schools. She retired in 1989. Her husband died Aug. 25, 1997. She was a involved in Trinity United Methodist Church, was a volunteer for KIDS at Grand Island Progress School and was active in the Grand Island Area Retired Teacher Association, serving as president for two terms. Survivors are one son, Douglas of Heartwell; three daughters, Cynthia Wilkinson of Denver, Christine Deter of Red Oak, Iowa, and Carole Glenn of Lincoln; two brothers, Edwin Christensen and Orval Christensen, both of Minden; three sisters, Hazel Jepsen and Velma Landstrom, both of Minden, and Dorothy Taylor of Denver; and seven grandchildren.
