Mr. Arpin was born Aug. 13, 1931, at Clyde, the son of Ronald Arpin and Laura Ericson. He grew up in Clyde. He received his master's degree from Kansas State University. He married Sue Empson on Nov. 18, 1953. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He taught in country schools then taught in Clifton. Read More	CLAY CENTER-- Gene Arpin, 80, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center. Mr. Arpin was born Aug. 13, 1931, at Clyde, the son of Ronald Arpin and Laura Ericson. He grew up in Clyde. He received his master's degree from Kansas State University. He married Sue Empson on Nov. 18, 1953. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He taught in country schools then taught in Clifton. He became an administrator for Clay Center USD-379 in 1968 and was principal in Green, Morganville, Garfield and McKinley schools until retiring in 1993. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay County Historical Society, VFW, the BonFire Busters camping club and a scout leader. Survivors include his wife Sue Arpin of the home at Clay Center; two daughters, Linda Willoughby and husband Randy of Minneapolis and Peggy Arpin of Clay Center; one son, Mike Arpin and wife Gayla of Coffeyville; two sisters, Marie Marcotte of Hutchinson and JoAnn Simpson of Smither Center; two brothers, Bob Arpin and wife Ruth of Hutchinson and Jerry Arpin and wife Carolyn of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24 at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay Center, with the Rev. Larry Grennan officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Rosary will be at 7 p.m Memorials may be made to Gene Arpin Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, 918 7th St., Clay Center, KS 67432.
