Both memorials are in place since there are inscriptions, even if only partial in Batavia, and someone walking the Batavia cemetery might inadvertently believe that Bessie was buried there since the DOB inscription is present, assuming that the DOD inscription was not engraved but not knowing that the physical burial wasn't in Batavia. ---------------------- Fairfield Ledger December 1980 F. J. Brooks Services will be Friday morning for Francis Jackson Brooks who died Tuesday morning at the Parkview Care Center. The services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Francis Jackson Brooks was born July 23, 1905 in Batavia. He was the son of David and Bessie Davis Brooks. His marriage to Florence Amel McCabe took place Feb. 11, 1928, in Fairfield. She survives. He farmed in Jefferson County for a number of years and was employed as maintenance worker at the Center Point High School in Center Point for 25 years before he retired in 1970. Brooks was a member of the United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mary June Adam, Keota, and Betty Jane Dimmitt, Fairfield; one son, John David Brooks, Lake City, Florida; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also two sisters, Marie Toth, Chargin Falls, Ohio, and Clara Nelans, Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
