Merle had been a life long resident of this community and will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. Francis Merl Brown, one of the twin sons of Francis Marion and Elizabeth Goldsmith Brown, was born near Brooks, Iowa, May 7, 1900. He passed away April 25, 1978 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 11 months, 18 days. He attended rural school in Adams County, Iowa and lived his entire life in Adams County. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the United Methodist Church. On February 24, 1921 he was united in marriage to Addie I. Lawrence. Three children were born to this union, Doris, Robert, and Harold. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1962; his parents, and two brothers, Walter L. and M. Earl Brown. Survivors include his daughter, Doris Action and her husband Clint of Villisca; two sons, Robert and his wife Daisy of Corning, and Harold of Nodaway; five grandchildren, Beverly Amdor and husband Jim of Corning; Ronald Brown and wife Lu Anne of Corning; Randall Clark and wife Nancy of Des Moines; Gary and wife Julie of Des Moines; and Carole Clark of Villisca; also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Angela and Mathew Clark and Aaron Amdor; one sister, Annis Smith of Corning and sister-in-law Florence E. Brown of Council Bluffs, Florence C. Brown of Corning, Erman Lawrence of Corning, Edna Lawrence of Courtland, Nebraska, and a number of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. In later years, he and his family enjoyed the friendship and companion of Helen Orme of Nodaway. Merl was a friend to all and was especially devoted to his family. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Nodaway, April 28, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clair Kerns officiating. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
