B, 7 Inf., 3rd Division. ------------------------------------------- OBITUARY - Another Marshall county hero has been brought home from France and laid to rest. Again, we have paid homage to one of our young men who fought and died for his county, who gave up his life that his country might triumpt. The remains of Frank A. Ring, son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Ring of this city, arrived here Tuesday from France, and funeral service were held yesterday morning at St. Gregory's Catholic church, and his body now lays in the Catholic cemetery. Frank entered the army in September, 1917 and was inducted into the service at Camp Funston. He was originally with the 89th Division but while at Camp Merritt was transferred to Co. B, 7th Infantry, Third Division and with this organization went overseas. On July 15, 1918 he was wounded in an engagement and was confined to the hospital for about two months before returning to his company. The exact time and manner in which he was killed is not known, but about October 17, 1918 while engaged in that bloody conflict at the Argonne he gave up his life. He was buried behind the lines and his body was afterward removed to the Argonne Cemetery. The body was from there disinterred and returned to his country arriving at New York on August 25. The body arrive here Tuesday afternoon and was escorted by the members of the American Legion to the home of his parents. An enormous number people were in attendance at the funeral service which was held at 9:00 o'clock yesterday morning, Rev. Father Redeker conducting the service. At the cemetery the impressive American Legion services was also given a volley fired over the grave and final "taps" were sounded. Frank was 28 years old at the time of his death. He is mourned by his father, mother, two brothers - Herbert and Will J. Ring, and three sisters - Mrs. F. Bach, Mrs. E. Seematter and Mrs. E. Creevan. He was a faithfull member of the Catholic church and a member of Marysville Council No. 1777 Knights of Columbus. Frank A. Ring was raised in this community, a steady industrious and trustworthy lad and before entering the army was making a success of his of his chosen work, farming. He had a wide acquaintanceship and all who knew him liked and respected him. His life, both as a citizen and a soldier was above reproach, and the entire community bows head in grief and honors his memory. (Obit provided by contributor Gloria Schulz)
