Survivors include his wife, Betty; children: Mrs. Robert (Lou Ann) Blome, Nampa, Idaho; John, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Roger (Jane) Dagitz, White Bear Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Frank (Pamela) Dowie III, Waterloo; Mrs. Sumner (Paula) Knudson, Omaha. Neb., and Tony, Seattle, Wash., and a brother, Carl, Carroll. The Nockels store had been in the family since 1876 and was the oldest family-owned clothing business in Carroll until it was sold to the Foley family a few years ago. Nockels bought the interests of his father and other heirs in 1936 and ran the store, originally located on the southeast corner of Fifth and Main streets, through the urban renewal period. He built the present store on the south side of Fifth Street a block west of the pioneer location. After the store was sold, Nockels continued to work for the new owners on a part-time basis. His brother, Carl, is presently bookkeeper at the store. Nockels, a 1926 graduate of Carroll High School, was an avid sports fan and was a state champion wrestler. He was born Feb. 16, 1909, in Carroll, a son of Frank B. and Louise Neu Nockels. After graduating from high school he joined his father in the clothing business. He married Betty Huckins in Carroll on Dec. 18, 1934. He was active in civic affairs and was a member of St. Lawrence church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks lodge, Country Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served as an officer of the Elks and was a board member of the Country Club. He was a charter member of the Iowa Retail Clothiers Association. A memorial fund has been established in Nockels' name, and memorial contributions may be left at Sharp Funeral Home during visitation hours.
