Frank's father was John Marion Hazle and his mother was Mattie Jane Gordon (Janie) Franks. He had four sisters Mattie Victoria Hazle (Sumerel), Mamie Jane Hazle (Riddle, Lyon), Ruby Nell Hazle (Satterfield), and Thelma Hazle (who died of TB at age 22). Frank's father was John Marion Hazle and his mother was Mattie Jane Gordon (Janie) Franks. He had four sisters Mattie Victoria Hazle (Sumerel), Mamie Jane Hazle (Riddle, Lyon), Ruby Nell Hazle (Satterfield), and Thelma Hazle (who died of TB at age 22). He had three brothers John Hugh "Dude" Hazle, Lewis Wilbur Hazle, and an infant brother (who was born and died in 1914). I knew all of his siblings who lived to adulthood - I remember them fondly and miss them all, even the two I never met. My grandfather spelled his last name Hazel, even though his other siblings and parents spelled it Hazle. We don't know why he changed the spelling but he did so sometime after his marriage. ------------------------------ Memories of Papa Frank Papa drove a taxi To the school and to the mill. Everyone knew his name… Many know it still. "Egypt" hung over his mantel. His father John was there for years. Charley Weaver shook out a cocktail And blew smoke right out of his ears. Nubby and Tony and Teddy Danced when Papa came in sight. Kitty Tom twirled and begged For a liver mush delight. Wilburn slacked when he could Amid old Kaisers, worn and dull. While a 5¢ glass bottle coke Could be had for a coin and a pull. The summer nights there were still And thickness filled the air. His cigarette glowed in the dark Lighting ruddy red cheeks and “Grecian” brown hair. A hat and a suit and sassafras tea And grapefruit juice from a can.
