Read More	Frank Holmes "JIM" Boggess Jim Boggess was born September 16, 1924, at Villisca, Iowa, the son of Willis Glenn and Ruth Fryer Boggess. He was named Frank Holmes after his two grandfathers, but was called Jim from day one! Jim spent the first two years of his life in Storm Lake where his father managed a shoe store. It was there that his brother, Robert Glenn, was born. In 1927 the family moved to a farm southeast of Villisca owned by Grandfather Fryer. Jim attended Sunny Slope country school and drove a Model A to Villisca High School where he was a charter member of the Reno Smith FFA Chapter, played basketball, and took part in drama and music, graduating in 1942. In 1946 Jim married Effie Lee Narigon at the Nodaway Methodist Church. He was always very proud of their seven children, all of whom graduated from Villisca High School and various universities. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children's school and 4-H activities and received the Honorary 4-H Award. Jim was active in community affairs. He was an officer in both the Villisca School Parents Association and the Booster Club. He served on the Villisca Community School Board. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. Jim was a long-time supporter of the Villisca Theatre, acting in two plays. He especially enjoyed emceeing the variety shows at the theatre for several years. Jim was an active member of the Villisca United Methodist Church. He served in several capacities on the board and taught an adult Sunday School Class for many years. This class was the foundation of several community projects, including the Villisca Inter-Church Scholarship. Jim became a lay speaker and for a number of years filled in at area churches in the absence of the pastor. Jim was supportive of farm organizations and was named a Master Pork Producer. He served on a local co-op board for several years and held many offices, including president and voting delegate, for Page County Farm Bureau. He was elected to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors, representing Southwest Iowa's District 9 from 1981-1985, and received the Page County Service Award in 1984. Jim was interested in political affairs. He served as chairman of the county Republican Party organization, and worked on campaigns for various candidates. In 1985 he became Agricultural Aide to newly elected Congressman Jim Ross Lightfoot, a position he held for 10 years. He spent the next 10 years assisting Effie as she served in the Iowa Legislature in Des Moines and was tireless as chauffeur and "gofer." Jim enjoyed people and made friends easily. He and Effie enjoyed traveling, representing Farm Bureau and Congressman Lightfoot, or visiting children and grandchildren as they found career opportunities across the country. Jim's greatest enjoyment was family and neighborhood outings--wiener roasts, potluck suppers, winter sledding events, or family get-togethers. He proudly hosted a farm party when the Fryer/Boggess farm reached the 100 year milestone. The highlight of all events was the player piano. He relished playing for children, grandchildren, or friends as they sang along with the piano roll. Jim also liked listening to big band music, and writing "pomes." Friends and family received his rhymes under the pen name "Taylor County's Best Beloved Pomeist, B.S. Rubble!" Jim and Effie lived on the farm until 1999 when a tornado destroyed the buildings at which time they moved to Clarinda. The family still owns the farm and enjoys the native prairie established there on the old home site. Jim entered into rest on December 22, 2007, at Clarinda, IA. He is survived by his wife Effie, Clarinda, IA, and children Marilyn Collister (John), Denver, CO; Susy Clayton (Dallas), Villisca, IA; Bill (Carolyn), Corvallis, OR; Dick (Pat), Newton, IA; Mark (Heather), Villisca, IA; Jane (Chris Morreale), San Leandro, CA; and Jim (Diane), Springfield, MO. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, by his sister-in-law, Joan, Villisca, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Glenn Boggess, and by his brother Bob. Funeral services for Jim were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Villisca United Methodist Church in Villisca, IA. Interment was at the Villisca Cemetery. The Boggess Memorial Fund has been established in his name. Donations may be given to the family or to Bank Iowa in Clarinda or Villisca. Wolfe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
