The men were employed by the railroad and brought their families to Creston from Iowa City, where there was a large Bohemian settlement. Attracted by the fertile black soil, they decided to settle in Adams County, but chose the northern part of the county because at that distance from the railroad land could be bought for $2.00 an acre. This was about 1872. Later Joseph Blazek came to Colony Township directly from Bohemaia, lured by the letters of Mrs. Krisenger and Mrs. Vonasek, his aunts. Within two years he sent for his mother and father and his unmarried brothers and sisters. The Bohemians, like the Nordic races, are land hungry and with this nucleus, it was but a question of time until there was a thriving Bohemian settlement here. Many came directly from Bohemia to join relatives settling in Adams County, while others cam as tenant farm hands to work for the landed settlers. The saying was "Pay a Bohemian $300 a year and he'll save $350 of it." Adams County Free Press January 24, 1917 On Saturday at 1 p.m. at the home of L.V. Krisinger occurred the funeral of Frank Krisinger, who passed away at his home in Creston Thursday morning. Mr. Krisinger suffered a stroke of paralysis over three years ago and has lain absolutely helpless ever since. The deceased gentleman was one of the pioneers of this part of Iowa, coming to Iowa City in 1867. After a few years spent there, where he was married to Miss Josephine Vanesek, he moved to Des Moines and from there to what is now Creston, working on the C. B. & Q. railroad, which was then under construction from Red Oak west, as a freight brakeman. After a few years he with his family came to a farm at Williamson, where they lived for 33 years. When the family of seven children were grown to manhood and womanhood Mr. Krisinger and his wife returned to Creston, where he spent the remainder of his life. After a brief funeral service at the Creston home Saturday morning, the remains were brought to his old home here, which is now occupied by his son, Louis, where a large company gathered to pay their last respects to their old neighbor and friend. The funeral service in the Bohemian language was read by Mr. Frank Strunce of Creston and an observations were sung by a quartet. The five sons and one son-in-law served as pallbearers. The casket was entirely covered with the beautiful floral offerings from relatives, neighbors, and friends. Mr. Krisinger was about 74 years of age, and during his long residence here was one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of this entire Bohemian community. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife, five sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His children were all at his bedside during his last hours. They are Joseph, Frank, and Louis Krisinger of Williamson and Mrs. Barbara Kolash of Good Hope; William Krisinger and Mrs. Mary Krisinger of Creston. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Mary Holmack of Creston, Mrs. Anna McGann of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Agnes Williamson of Williamson, and Mrs. Barbara Rowland of Alta, Canada all of whom were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Rowland. Interment was made in the Bohemian cemetery near here.
