GARFIELD CRAWFORD Frankie Welch, second daughter of William and Adei Hasting Welch, was born Nov. 28, 1888 in Clarke county, Iowa, and passed away at her home near Norwood on June 3, 1955 at the age of 66 years 6 months and 6 days. Her death was due to a stroke from which she lingered only a few days. Up to the time of being stricken she was in good health. On Nov. 28, 1906 she was united in marriage to Garfield Crawford of Norwood. To this union six children were born, five of whom survive. Surviving are her faithful husband, four sons, John at home, Deloss and Gerald of Norwood, Cecil of Des Moines and one daughter, Mrs. Doris Day of Des Moines, also four brothers, Joe, Walker and Ross Welch of Chariton, Merrill of Ottumwa and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Arnold of Phoenix, Ariz. Also six grandchildren, Linda and Hugh Day, Norman, Gary and Inez Crawford and Donald Crawford, stationed with the U. S. Navy at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and a host of other relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents and one son, Brice, who passed away March 4, 1942. Also one brother, Charles, and one sister, Mrs. Alpha Vickroy and one granddaughter, Karen Lee Crawford. In her early life she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the United Brethren church of Norwood. She was a faithful and loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, a great lover of her home and family and a very firm believer in righteousness in every detail of life. She will always be remembered by those that knew her, for her patient, cheerful disposition. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Everett Hollingshead at the Norwood church Sunday, June 5, 1955 at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Norwood cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
