Son of Garfield Crawford and Frankie Welch OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, June 3, 1997 DELOSS CRAWFORD Deloss Crawford, the son of Garfield and Frankie Crawford, was born on August 15, 1908 in Lucas County, Iowa, near the community of Norwood. On April 20, 1947, he was united in marriage to Alberta Birchard from Kellogg. To this union a son, Norman, was born. Deloss had suffered a series of strokes beginning in 1979 until they eventually caused his death. In 1988 he lost the ability to talk, in 1992 he lost the ability to walk, and early this year he lost the ability to swallow. With the loss of his beloved wife in 1989 and his inability to talk, walk or to eat, most of life's joys had been taken away from him before he died on May 23, 1997, of pneumonia, as a result of his last stroke. As a young man, Deloss accepted the Lord as his Saviour at the Lucas Assembly of God Church. He spent his life farming and was an honest and kind man, always willing to help anyone in time of need. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta, and brothers Brice and Gerald. He is survived by his son, Norman, and his wife Sheri of Olympia, Wash.; and two brothers, John of Indianola and Cecil of Des Moines, and a sister, Doris Day of Marshalltown. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 28, 1997 at 1 p.m., at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. The service was conducted by the Rev. Gerald Caughron and the Rev. Jerry Niswender, with music by Peggy Sones. Burial was in the Norwood Cemetery of rural Lucas County. Bearers were Donald Crawford, Gary Crawford, Mark Crawford, Leonard Day, Joe Canny and Bill Welch. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
