His early life was spent in New York State; also some years in Vermont, where he was united in marriage to Grace Gourlay of Hartford, New York, February 15, 1872. NELSON Was born April 11, 1841, in Washington county (sic), New York; died at his home near Abdal April 4, 1018, at 5:30 p.m. He was the oldest of eleven children, seven of whom are still living. His early life was spent in New York State; also some years in Vermont, where he was united in marriage to Grace Gourlay of Hartford, New York, February 15, 1872. They removed to Nebraska in 1878, where they have since resided. There were born to this union five children the two oldest, Gourlay Nelson and Mrs. Carrie Taylor having passed on. There remain to mourn his death, his wife and three children. The children are Henrietta (Mrs. William Rouse) Lola (Mrs. Ira Harrington) and Frank LeRoy Nelson; also five grand children - all living in the vicinity of Nelson, except one grandson, Clifford Taylor, who resides in Colorado. He was a remarkably strong, active man; a very cheerful disposition; a kind and indulgent father. He was taken sick in January with pleurisy and acute indigestion. He was sick for two months, but recovered somewhat and was able to be out when he was suddenly taken worse and only lived three days, suffering much pain, until death called him. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Nelson at 2:30 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. A.J. Dressler and Rev. F.G. Knauer.
