Mrs. Shinn was the widow of the late Frank Shinn. Fannie Havlicek was born February 12, 1844, at Studnice, Nova Mesto, Morava, Czechoslovakia, and passed away January 5, 1940, at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 24 days. She came to this country in 1877 and located at Humboldt, Nebr. That same year she was united in marriage to Frank Shinn. She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Edward; two step-sons, Thomas and Frank Shinn, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Yoble, all of DuBois; also a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Her husband and two step-daughters, Minnie Rakasnik and Anna Vitek, preceded her in death. Since the death of her husband she made her home with her son, Edward. Due to a lingering illness, the last two years of her life were spent in the Pawnee City hospital. She was an early pioneer and experienced the hardships of those days. Her memories dwelt on the days when the family living quarters were sod houses on the prairies and occasionally their visitors were Indians. Her memory will be long cherished by her many friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the United Brethren church in DuBois, Rev. O. Webb officiating. Members of the United Brethren choir sang. Internment was in the DuBois cemetery. Pawnee Republican, Unknown date.
