Description	:	Fred Deaver, son of William C. and Adelia F. Deaver, was born two miles northwest of Sabetha on May 24, 1878. He departed this life at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Pittsburg, Kansas, October 17, 1957 at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 23 days. He grew from infancy to manhood on the Deaver farm a mile east of Sabetha. Mr. Deaver was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann Bestwick, February 19, 1905. Seven children were born to their union; Melvin L., Ray, William A., Lila Ruth, wife of Bernard Wiltz and Frances, wife of Augustine Sauer, all of Sabetha; Opal Julia, wife of Kenneth Schmitt of Pittsburg, Ks.; and Mildred Adelia, wife of William McCoy of Washington D. C. Mr. Deaver has always been interested in promoting the welfare and advancement of his community. He helped to organize the Farmers State Bank of Sabetha, of which he was chosen vice president. He remained a director of the Bank until his death. He was one of our local citizens, who was a bulwark during the years of depression in the Sabetha community. He also helped to organize the Nemaha Co-op Creamery Association, of which he was a director and treasurer for many years. He was past president of the Farmers Elevator Company and served as president of the Berwick Co-op Oil Company. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pioneer Life Insurance Company. Mr. Deaver was one of the early promoters of hybrid seed corn in this area. He and his son, Ray, have been associated together in the certified seed business for a number of years. Another interest of Mr. Deaver was the promotion of soil and water conservation and that of crop rotation. Mr. Deaver leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of the home in Sabetha; the seven children mentioned above; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Clara Thompson and a brother, Harlan Deaver, both of Sabetha, a number of other relatives; and a host of friends. The "Memorial Service" for him was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Sabetha Methodist Church, conducted by the rev. John W. Campbell, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Charles Walz, pastor of the Sabetha United Brethren Church, Mrs. Byers Ericksten sang at the service, "The Land Where We'll Never Grow Old" and "Hold My Hand Precious Lord." She was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Carroll Robinson. Casket bearers were Paul J. Miller, Tony Heptig, Max Mock, Weldon Kendall, Virgil Carpenter and Paul Geiger. Honorary pall bearers were Jake Anderson and Adolph Lortscher. Interment was in the Sabetha cemetery. Assumed from the Sabetha Herald.
