Mr. Deaver owned and operated an insurance agency in Sabetha most of his life. He also owned the Sabetha Seed Co. for several years, and he was administrator of Sabetha Manor for several years. "Bill" Deaver, 79, Sabetha, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at a Sabetha nursing home. Mr. Deaver owned and operated an insurance agency in Sabetha most of his life. He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Sabetha, the son of Fred and Sarah Bestwick Deaver. He graduated from Sabetha High School, and he attended Kansas City Business School in Kansas City, Kan. Mr. Deaver was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as organist. He was a member of Post No. 7285 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sabetha, John L. Palmer Post No. 162 of the American Legion in Sabetha and the Sabetha Kiwanis Club. He married Alice Plattner on Nov. 9, 1958, in Sabetha. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Craig Deaver, Sabetha; a daughter, Diana Stoller, Austin, Texas; a brother, Ray Deaver, Sabetha; four sisters, Opal Schmitt, Lila Ruth Wiltz and Frances Sauer, all of Sabetha, and Mildred McCoy, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Burial will be at Sabetha Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Sabetha and sent in care of the funeral home.
