The temple was filled to capacity with sorrowing friends who came to pay their last respects to the memory of the man they had known for years. Mr. Gilmour passed away after a lingering illness of nearly four years. He was born near Albany, Oregon, October 14, 1875, and when six years of age moved with his family to this valley. Except for eight years he had lived in Ellensburg. During those wight years he was a resident of Roslyn, where he was manager of the grocery department of the N.W.I. store. On November 28, 1898, he was married to Miss Nettie Burke and to them nine children were born, and seven of these are living. They are Warren F. Gilmour, Mrs. Helen B. Swafford, Lewis T. Gilmour, Fred Gilmour, Jr., C. Lowe Gilmour, Walter F. Gilmour and Robert L. Gilmour. He is also survived by one brother, John Gilmour of Ellensburg and four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lothrop of Ellensburg, Mrs. J.G. Parkinson of Visalia, Calif., Mrs. C. H. Bellamy of Los Angeles and Miss Maud Gilmour of Los Angeles. He also leaves two grandchildren. Mr. Gilmour served as county treasurer of this county for four years and also served as city councilman four years. He had been engaged in the grocery business here for 19 years and at the time of his death was a member of the grocery film of Gilmour & Gilmour. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Elks and the Woodman of the World lodges. Funeral services were held at the Elks temple and Rev. Morris of the Baptist church officiated. In the passing of Fred Gilmour this city lost an honorable upright citizen and many of its residents lost a true friend. Long residence here proved his sterling worth and endeared him to hundreds upon hundreds of local people. Everyone who has lived here any length of time knew Fred Gilmour, had been cheered by his pleasant smile and kind words and had felt the family clasp of his hand. Man's worth cannot be measured by his friendly possessions, but it can be measured by his attitude toward his fellowman. There is that in some humans which shines forth as a beacon light to others, that something which appeals to all of us and draws us unconsciously, perhaps toward the men who possess it. There are in some men certain traits which bespeak their lofty character, their goodness of heart and their interest, their love in their fellowman. Fred Gilmour was one of these men. The world is a better place as a result of his having lived in it. The large attendance at his funeral services told without words the high esteem in which he was held by the people of this community, and the tears which bedimmed the eyes of men as they wended their way out of the temple at the conclusion of the ceremony is the highest possible tribute that could have been given to his memory and he was deserving of it all."
