(FRITZ) HARTMAN Fred H. (Fritz) Hartman, son of Henry F. and Minnie (Poppe) Hartman, born December 9, 1909, died Febraury 27, 1989 at the age of 79 as result of a fire at his home in DuBois, NE. Fred grew up on a farm south of DuBois, NE in Nemaha County, KS. where he lived with his parents, two sisters and five brothers. He was baptized at Friedens Evangelical Church and later confirmed there by the Rev. Otto Kueger, April 5, 1925. He attended the Riverside No. 2 school. At age 18, Fred received training as an airplane mechanic in Lincoln, NE. He returned to Nemaha County, KS and found work as a hired hand for Alvin Korber. Fred then moved to Troy where he worked in the fruit orchards. In 1934 he operated the first school bus to serve the Seneca public school. In 1938 he drove a tanker truck in Pawnee City, NE. In 1942, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in World War II on the USS Northampton. He was discharged in 1945. After the war, Fred once again found work near Troy as a farm hand and than became an auto mechanic at the Packard Garage in St. Joseph, MO. At this time he was married to Mildred Herring of St. Joseph, MO. They moved to Inglewood, Ca in 1951. Mildred had a son, Robert Frizelli by a previous marriage. Fred continued to work as a mechanic for Packard and then for other garages. He retired from the Chevrolet garage in 1971. After moving to Hanesville, Washington to be near Mildred's family. Mildred and Fred returned to California. Mildred died August 2, 1979. Fred returned home to DuBois, NE where he lived for a while with his brother, Chris, returned for a short time to Washington, moved to the Pawnee Village in Pawnee City, NE and then to his house in DuBois. Preceding Fred in death were his parents, three brothers, and one sister. He is survived by one sister, Katie Marsh of Deer Par, TX; two brothers, Carl of Sabetha and Marvin of Pawnee City, NE; his stepson. A memorial service at Friedens United church of Christ will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10.
