Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Brokaw, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. The casket will be open Tuesday in the McVey Chapel, but not at the services. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church instead of sending flowers. Fred R. Corbett, the son of Moses and Lucille Lunbeck Corbett, was born July 6th, 1875, in Leon, Iowa. His wife, the former Mabel Harmon, to whom he was married Sept. 18th, 1907, in Wichita, died March 13th of this year. Mr. Corbett came to Emporia from Lamar, Colo., in 1891, and was employed by the Emporia Gazette when it was owned by J. R. Graham. He was the manager of the old Whitley Opera House for short time in 1897 and later operated it continuously from 1905 until 1912. During those years, he opened the "airdome," an outdoor theater, first located north of the Gazette building on Merchant St., then moving to a site on the east side of the street. He was instrumental in bringing many stock shows and other stage entertainments to Emporia, and was among the first producers in the region. He became interested in outdoor poster advertising in 1898, and was a widely known pioneer in that field until his partial retirement in 1957. For a number of years he operated theaters and an outdoor poster advertising business in Moberly, Mo., then merged his businesses and returned to live in Emporia. A scrapbook of early day theater materials he had accumulated was donated to the Lyon County Historical Society. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church; Masonic Blue Lodge; Arab Shrine; Knights Templar; The Emporia Country Club; The Low Twelve Club, and the Outdoor Advertising Association, and since his retirement had devoted a great deal of time to his hobby, gardening and flower cultivation. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth, Sedalia, Mo., and LeClair, Lincoln, Mo.; one brother, Henry, Topeka; one sister, Mrs. F. J. Machovec, Pasadena, Calif., and two grandchildren. **************************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 04 May 1961, Thursday THE CORBETT FUNERAL Funeral services for Fred Corbett, 501 Congress St., who died Sunday in his home, were held Wednesday morning in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Brokaw, pastor of the church. Dean Smith served as crucifier and Miss Barbara Street was the organist. Pallbearers were Stanley J. Hagan, Lloyd B. Price, S. W. Kufahl, Clay E. Howerton, Paul Palmer and Ralph Purviance. Members of Emporia Masonic Lodge conducted graveside services in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Relatives who attended from out of town were Mr. amd Mrs. Kenneth Corbett, Sealia, Mo; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Corbett, Lincoln, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Corbett, Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray West, Warrensburg, Mo.; Mrs. Fred Machovec, Pasadena, Calif., and Henry Corbett, Topeka.
