The departed was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Karl Blase and was born Feb. 11, 1875 in Hamilton County near Hordville, Nebr. He lived to be 69 years, 10 months and 20 days. As an infant, he was made a child of God by holy baptism on June 6, 1875 and on April 14, 1888 he renewed his baptismal covenant by the rite of confirmation in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Polk. On February 22, 1900 he entered holy wedlock with Mary Meerkatz. All his lifetime he was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and by the grace of God, he was kept in the true faith in Christ, the Savior, until the end according to the solemn vow which he made at the time of his confirmation. The deceased was a life long resident of this community, a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran congregation, being a voting member for 45 years, a school member for 12 years and a trustee for 14 years. For 7 years he had been suffering with diabetes. Last fall his condition became so serious that he was taken to the Lutheran hospital at York for medical treatment. His condition grew worse, and on Aug. 29, his leg was amputated. He got along fairly well until Dec. 26 when again he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. On Dec. 30, he suffered a stroke and passed away Dec. 31st at 2:00 o'clock a.m. He leaves to mourn: his beloved wife; two children, Henry C. Blase and Mrs. Fred Laessle of Polk; a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law; one granddaughter, Alvertus Laessle; (one granddaughter, Gladys Blase preceded him in death), 3 brothers: Herman of York, Will and Louis Blase of Hordville; 3 sisters: Mrs. Minnie Smith, Mrs. Carl Wilshusen and Mrs. Henry Reeb of Polk and many other relatives and a host of friends.
