He had been bedfast the past two weeks but had been in failing health for some time….Death was caused by ailments incident to old age. Funeral Saturday Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with the pastor, the Rev. W. C. Fleischer, officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot in the Blairsburg cemetery, with Foster’s in charge. Mr. Beisner leaves four children, H.C., of Williams; John C., of Fifty Lakes, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Birkholz, of Hebron, Neb., and Mrs. Caroline Lutzke, of Chugwater, Wyo. There are nineteen grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Fred Beisner was born Nov. 15, 1846, in Germany, his parents being Henry and Caroline Beisner. He came to the United States in 1866 and settled in Elgin, Ill., where he was a shoemaker for four years. In 1870 he moved to Vernon township in Wright county, Iowa, and farmed until 1882, when he moved to Williams. At that place he was in the stock, grain and lumber business. Retired in 1894 In 1885 he returned to the old homestead in Vernon township where he lived until 1894 when he retired from active work and moved to Webster City. He was married Sept. 10, 1868, to Miss Dora Engelking in Elgin, Ill. She preceded her husband in death Jan. 1, 1932, and is buried in the Blairsburg cemetery. Mr. Beisner was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church and in his younger days was active in various community affairs and civic projects. FRED BEISNER Among the ambitious, enterprising, resolute men who have come to America from Germany to take advantage of the broader business opportunities found in this land and who have advanced to a position of affluence is Fred Beisner, of Webster City, who, after close connection with agricultural and banking interests through a number of years, is now living a retired life. His birth occurred in the fatherland, November 15, 1846, his parents being Henry and Caroline (Judas) Beisner, who spent their entire lives in Germany, the father following the occupation of shoemaking. In their family were four sons and a daughter: Conrad, who resides in Thayer county, Nebraska, and has been elected on the Republican ticket to represent his district in the state legislature; Minnie, the wife of William Webbeking, of Germany; Fred; and two brothers, who are now deceased. Mr. Beisner of this review pursued his education in the schools of his native country and after putting aside his textbooks worked in his father’s shoe shop until twenty years of age, when, believing that he would have better opportunities for business advancement in the new world, he made preparations for leaving the fatherland. In 1866 he bade adieu to home and friends and after crossing the Atlantic made his way to Elgin, Illinois, where he followed shoemaking for four years. While there located, Mr. Beisner was married, on the 10th of September, 1868, to Dora Engelking, who was born in Germany June 29, 1851, a daughter of Christ and Dora (Rehling) Engelking, who came to America when their daughter was a little maiden of three summers. They crossed the Atlantic in a sailing vessel in 1854, spending six weeks on the water, and then made their way across the country to Schaumburg, Cook county, Illinois, where the father engaged in farming. In 1876 he brought his family to Iowa, where he and his wife both died, the former in 1884, the latter in 1890. Mrs. Beisner has three brothers and one sister in America: Christian, of North Dakota; John, of Waterloo, Iowa; Fred, of Lyon county, Iowa; and Minnie, the wife of Fred Landorn, of Dows, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Beisner have five children: Caroline, who was born September 2, 1869, and married Herman Lutzke, of Williams, Iowa; Herman, who was born February 9, 1871, and married Augusta Bowman, of Vernon township, Wright county, Iowa; Fred, who was born on Christmas day of 1874 and married Theressa Singer, their home being east of Webster City, in Cass township; John, who was born September 11, 1877, and married Clara Anderson, their home being in Webster City; and Martha, born in January, 1886, and now at home. On leaving Illinois Mr. Beisner took up his abode in Vernon township, Wright county, Iowa, in 1870, and purchased one hundred and sixty acres of land, to which he added by additional purchase until he had six hundred and forty acres—an entire section. In 1882 he removed to Williams, Hamilton county, where he engaged in dealing in stock, grain and lumber, doing quite an extensive business along that line. He was also a director and stockholder in the State Bank at Williams and the Exchange Bank at Dows. He continued to reside in the former place until 1885, when he returned to the old homestead farm, making his home thereon until 1894, when he came to his present home in Webster City. He divided a part of his Wright county land among his children. Since coming to Webster City he has purchased a half section of land, besides residence property covering thirty acres. His investments have been carefully and judiciously made and have brought to him a very desirable financial return. In his political views Mr. Beisner is a Republican and fraternally is connected with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He belongs to the German Lutheran church of Webster City. He has never regretted his determination to seek a home in the new world, for he has prospered in his undertakings here and his enterprise and diligence have been rewarded with success.
