Mr. Johnson died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Lawrence, the son of Frederick Kline and Anna Eliza (Nichols) Johnson. He attended Lawrence public schools and lived most of his life in Lawrence. Mr. Johnson worked for Hercules Ammunition Plant in Hanford, Wash., during World War II. Mr. Johnson died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Lawrence, the son of Frederick Kline and Anna Eliza (Nichols) Johnson. He attended Lawrence public schools and lived most of his life in Lawrence. Mr. Johnson worked for Hercules Ammunition Plant in Hanford, Wash., during World War II. A heavy equipment operator, he worked for Constant and Kansas construction companies. He then worked for Dunbar Construction Company until he retired in 1982. He was a member of Hoisting and Portable Engineers Local No. 101, Kansas City; Elks Lodge No. 595, B.P.O.E., Lawrence; and Mt. Oread Aerie No. 309, F.O.E., Lawrence. He married Marguerite Elston March 27, 1937, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Frederick, Lawrence; three daughters, Marie Harding, Emporia, Sally Barnett, Ozawkie, and Denise Hahnstadt, Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Minnie Frazier, South Bend, Wash., and Elizabeth House, Lawrence; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. The family suggests memorial contributions to North Lawrence Christian Church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
