Description	:	Fred was a son of James Elijah Chase and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Sprague. He married Ella Marie Spencer on January 24, 1894 in Pocahontas County, Iowa. Chase of Havelock, another one of Pocahontas counties early settlers has passed away. Frederick E. Chase was born in Buchanan county, Iowa, May 16, 1862 and died at his home in Havelock, Iowa, May 1, 1919, at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 14 days. When a child he with his parents removed from Buchanan county to Pocahontas county, where he has resided all his life, except a short time that h e lived in Buena Vista county. He was married to Miss. Ella Spencer at Pocahontas, Jan , 24,1894. To this union was born six children four sons and two daughters—Walter S. and Rey E.(both with American Expeditionary Forces now in France), Nathan S., of Green River, Wyo,; George F., Wilma D. and Ruth E., who with his wife survive him and were all at his bedside except the two sons who were in France. The deceased was the third of a family of nine children, two of whom with the father and mother preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, six children, four brothers and two sisters, beside a large number of distant relatives and life long friends. His brothers are; J. L. of Burlington, Wash.; W. H. of Stenen, Sask. Canada; P. M. and A. E. of Hewitt, Minn.; M. L. of Varina, Iowa, The sisters are Mrs. J. W. Logan and Mrs. W. A. Goodchild of Havelock, Iowa. The sisters were present at the funeral. M. L .Chase of Varina came to attend the funeral but was unable to stay on account of the illness of his wife and he had to leave for home. He was converted and united with the Free Methodist church in December, 1895. He was triumphant in death. Shortly before the Angel of Death summoned him home he rose in bed and said to the nurse who was in attendance, "I am going. to Heaven, please call my son." Just before expiring he sang—- "My Heavenly Home Is Bright and Fair." He was conscious and rejoicing unto the end. The funeral was held in the First M. E. church of Havelock on May 9 at 2:30 p.m.. Rev. Wm. Q. Taylor pastor of the P .M. church of Rolfe officiated, assisted by Rev. P.E Leazer of the M. B. church of Havelock and interment was made in Washington Cemetery. Considering the condition of the roads the funeral was well attended. Those from a distance were; Mrs. Chase's brother, C. A. Spencer and his wife of Ocheyden, a sister of Mrs. Chase, Mrs. Geo. Habben and daughter, Mrs. G. Steuch, both of Balaton, Minn., a sister of Mrs. Chase, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Crenap (sic) of Granton, Wis. - .A nephew, W. S. Chase of Albert City, H. Crouse and wife of Pocahontas. Mrs. M. Caskey of Curlew, ... The pall bearers were: S. H. Gill, J .S. Cole, W. E. Pirie, W. A.
