Frederick Peters, son of Henry and Margaretha Peters, was born January 21, 1871, in Depen, the province of Hanover, Germany, and died September 24, 1949, at St. Joseph's hospital in Concordia, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 1 day. He was a charter member of St. Paul's congregation at Byron, Neb. In the parish of Scheessel, Germany, he was baptized and received his early religious and secular training. At the age of 15 he came with his parents to America. They first settled at Springfield, Ill., where he received further religious instruction and was confirmed. Shortly after his confirmation his family settled on a farm north of Byron, Neb. He was married in St. Peter's church (sic) to Marie Meyer on October 6, 1893. Four children were born to them. The oldest children, Emma and Aleda died within the brief period of one week, victims of diphtheria. Mr. and Mrs. Peters farmed several years in the vicinity of Byron. In 1904 they moved to Byron and assumed management of the telephone business. In 1913 Mr. Peters became manager of the lumber yard at Byron, a position which he held for nine years. Since that time he has been in the implement business, and until failing health interfered a few weeks ago he was active in that concern. He was a loyal member of St. Paul's congregation. Receiving the sacrament of the Lord's Supper a number of days before his death, he bore testimony of his religious convictions until death called him into "the rest of the people of God." He is survived by his faithful wife; one son, Henry; one daughter, Amanda Eitzmann; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church, Byron, with the Rev. P.J. Weltner officiating. Interment was in St. Paul's cemetery (sic).
